And that is fine Shark. I simply don't want to deal with anything being reported on my system, so I have made my choices as well.

The fact that I have found players that don't require the installation of any codecs works very well for me, so all is good.

Im not sure I understand why you refuse to use something thats safe. Even though it flags the package up it is completely safe and can simply be ignored.

Thanks for the information. Seems the server was having issues.
I moved the updates to a different server so the download URL's should work now.

I just assumed he uses an old CRT monitor and has no idea how poor the image quality is with VLC.

Shark, one question - I know that you still say on the website that you recommend uninstalling the codecs - any idea as to why an uninstallation is needed, and if both the regular and x64 components need uninstalling prior to upgrading to a new version?

    1. sometimes a file is in use by the OS and doesnt get replaced.
    2. I dont have the time to personally test upgrade scenario's.
    3. When doing a clean install you will get the results I intended.
    4. With the new save/restore settings feature on the MISC TAB, it is a
simple single click after a clean install to restore your previous settings.

Thanks for that - I have a feeling that many opt to install over itself (it has been discussed in the past, both here and at Vistax64) and having you around I figured I could get you to put in writing why you don't recommend - hopefully more people will see this and listen.

Well, the person who made it says it's safe and two programs I have entrusted the protection of my system to say there is an issue.

And, really, does it matter if I use it or not? With VLC and KMPlayer I don't need to download any additional codec packs.

No offense, but I'd like to know *which* two programs you've entrusted your machine's care to say Shark's codecs are even *potentially* unsafe. I have tried *numerous* different 'safety' programs and not once has any of them barked about Shark's codecs. This is the primary reason I continue to use them on every W7 install I own.
