How do I record using my webcam?

Sorry for the numpty question. I have an HP laptop with built in webcam and although I've use WMP to record myself there's no recording of sound. My computer plays the sound and it works well with skype.

I am sure there's an obvious answer......

Do you have your mic setup to record? control panel>Sounds>Recording.

Yep, it seems ok. A little bar goes up and down when I make a noise and there's a green tick against the icon.

Right-click the Speaker Icon in the taksbar, open Recording devices. If your mic is listed there, does it have a recording level adjustment? If this doesn't help I'll see if someone else can help.

Yep, in the sound menu, on the recording tab it says 'Microphone Realtek High Definaition Audio' which has the green tick and the sound level indicator which is moving.

One other thing I thought of, although basic, is the volume turned up in your player?
