    JPEGS disappearing?? Help!

    Hi everyone,

I recently installed Windows 7 on my laptop and have noticed a peculiar issue...when I save a jpeg to a folder or the desktop and then go to change the date, after I hit enter to confirm the change the image disappears from view. The same thing happens when I try and save a jpeg using the Snipping Tool, as well - the image is just gone!

However, if I try to download a new image without changing the date and name it the same as the image that vanished, it won't let me do it because the name is already in use. So it appears that the image is still within the folder, but I can't get access to it.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Help!

Welcome mgm11937. First a few questions.
How was Win 7 installed, ie, Upgrade from Vista, full clean install, clean install from XP.
Where is the date you refer to?
As for the snip tool, do you have a folder selected to save it to?

It was a full clean install.

I'm changing the date in Windows Explorer when you select the jpeg and it shows the info about it on the bottom bar.

For the snip tool, I don't have a specific folder selected, I can save it in various locations and the same thing happens.

Also, I've found that the issue fixes itself when I hide and then unhide the contents of the folder (right click - properties), so it looks like the system is automatically hiding the specific files when a change is made. I'd hate to have to do this whenever I change anything with my photos!

I don't know why this happens, there are others having the same issue with disappearing files, most all are jpg.

A work around may work if in folder option you click to show Hidden folders.

This is a new bug and hopefully MS will be of some help. For now just keep options set to Show Hidden Files.

Hello again mgm11937, do you have McAfee security installed?

It seems McAfee is causing the problem for those who have it installed. Read this.
