Win 7 hides jpeg files when tagged This problem also started today on my system with 64 bit windows. The problem occurs when adding tags or other editing jpg file types in all the graphic programs i have on my machine. The problem only started today and has not been a problem in the last 3 years i have been using windows 7 including betas.
The files attributes are being changed by the operating system during system saves to being a hidden file type when it appears native windows 7 system calls are made, it isn't happening during inital file saves from my camera or scanner. Yes the files are viewable in win exploerer when the show hidden files is check in file and search options and files can be changed back to being standard files by manually changing the attributes but this shouldn't be happening at all. JPG files are not a reserved system file type that are typically hidden my windows to prevent them from being deleted by ignorant system users. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Hi,
Definately some sort of 'bug' has appeared. I was able to replicate your problem by:
1. Opening a pre-existing JPG file from My Pictures library using Paint.
2. Making a small edit and saving the file.
3. JPG file 'dissapears'.
This is definately one for Microsoft - any idea how we can let them know of the problem?
Regards,

This is a new bug and hopefully MS will be of some help. For now just keep options set to Show Hidden Files. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |

yes, mcafee is install but there have been no new updates that i am aware that were installed prior to this happening. Tried a system restore to a earlier date when there was no problem and the problem is still there. It is happening with all the graphic program (photoshop, picisa 3, windows live photo viewer, nikon nx2, paint and others) including windows native jpg edit funcitions in file explorer. So it has to be a system dll call that is common to all. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number None OS Windows 7 64 bit CPU Intel Q6700 Motherboard ASUS PK5-Deluxe Memory 8 gigs Graphics Card ATI 2900 Monitor(s) Displays Gateway PSU 750 Watt Case Koolance with Liquid Cooling Cooling Liquid cooling Hard Drives 3 500 GB 7200 RPM Toshiba Drives in RAID 1

I Klunky, seems McAfee is the culprit here. hidden jpg files Yeah, me too! Driving me crazy. Finally got a good suggestion from a Corel tech (re:Corel PhotoPaint): instead of SAVING AS as JPG, try EXPORTING AS JPG FOR WEB. Works for me. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit |

Welcome to Seven forums NIKKINOUSE. How, exactly do you do that? It's not an option in my Save As dialog nor the right-click menu of a web based pic. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built Desktop By DataTech OS Windows 7 Ultimate X64 SP1 CPU Intel i5-2550K, Differing ~4.4-4.8GHz No built in GPU Motherboard ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 Memory 16GB G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz 4x4GB Graphics Card ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 GeForce GTX 460 Sound Card Onboard Realtek 5-1 Monitor(s) Displays Samsung P2570HD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Old, beat-up Dell USB From 10 yrs Ago Mouse Gigabyte m6900 wired PSU Corsair HX650W Case Inwin Dragon Rider Cooling Hyper 212 EVO w/two Noctua fans, push-pull, @1300 RPM Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB for OS, 750GB Seagate MomentusXT for data, 500GB Seagate Constellation for storage Internet Speed 8-19 Mbs down, 3-4 Mbs up Comcast Cable Antivirus Norton Internet Security Browser IE 9, Opera when needed Other Info 4 case fans, LG BluRay-RE, ASUS DVD-RW, Mr. Fusion power generator with flux capacitor, 1.21 gigawatts. |
