Problem uploading photos

My previous PC had XP OS, and when I uploaded photos from my Kodak C653 Digital Camera, the PC would IMMEDIATELY open a small window on my screen which was Microsoft Photo & Fax Viewer. When I then clicked the Advanced text link from this window, I could quickly select the photos from my camera that I wanted to upload to my PC, without having to go through the menagerie of the Kodak software which came with the camera (which I've found very cumbersome and not at all user-friendly, I might add . . . so I never bothered using it).

On my new PC which is a Dell Optiplex 760, 64-bit, Windows 7 OS, when I try to upload the photos from my Kodak digital camera NOW, the PC doesn't open ANY program (as my former PC did with XP and the Photo & Fax Viewer). BOY, DO I MISS THAT FORMER PROGRAM! Is this program available for Windows 7, to anyone's knowledge? I've never found ANYTHING like it for ease of use in uploading photos, as within SECONDS all the photos were uploaded. Now, I don't know what to do to get these photos uploaded to this PC (????????). Could anyone offer any suggestions?

Hi, Anak: Thanks so much for your help. I had done precisely as you told me here, but when I got into that small window with the boxes, that particular box (Windows Fax and Scan) had already been check. So, I unchecked it, checked it again and clicked OK. Still can't find this program anywhere nor does it open when I try to upload the photos from the Kodak digital camera. I real quandary.

Here's one common way to copy pictures and video clips from your digital camera to your computer:



Connect the camera to your computer by using the camera's USB cable.

1. 
   Turn on the camera.
   In the AutoPlay dialog box that appears, click Import pictures and videos using Windows.
   To tag the pictures, type a tag name in the Tag these pictures (optional) box.
   By default, the folder name includes the date the pictures and videos are imported and the tag name.
2. Click Import.
   A new window opens and shows the imported pictures and videos.

Does your computer have a card reader or do you have a USB card reader you could use? I always use this method to transfer my images as it cuts down on my camera's battery usage and there's less chance of the images becoming corrupted as could happen if the camera loses it's power during a transfer.

It's my understanding that Microsoft Photo & Fax Viewer was replaced in Windows 7 by Windows Photo Viewer. Your camera should be recognized as another "drive" which can be opened. Photos can then be selected for uploading to a folder of your choosing or the default Picture folder on the Start Menu. Or you could just use the SD/Micro card in a card reader which would also be recognized as another "drive".

Yes, I used a USB cord from the camera to the PC, and when I turn the switch on the camera, the photos are supposed to upload automatically to the PC (as they did in my previous PC which had XP OS). Also, the Import Pictures and Video Using Windows had already been check, yet when I turn the camera on to upload, nothing shows on the monitor (????); no import box or anything. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking about in regard to the USB card reader.

Yes, thank you for your help. I just went to Computer, found the drive (which it recognized it as the Kodak camera) and opened it and the JPEG photos were right there. I just had to go there though, since no popup window displays at all when I turn the camera on to upload. Thanks so much again for your help, as it did recognize it as a removable drive.
