    WMP 12 Won't Delete

I've been having some problems with WMP 12. The player itself won't delete anything. I tried to delete an album by right-clicking and choosing delete, but it won't remove anything. I've tried ALT, T, A, R and that hasn't worked. I've also tried removing all of my music from the "My Music" folder. The "My Music" and "Public Music" folders are the only locations that are part of my Music library. When I move my music back to the My Music folder, the player then shows duplicates of everything.

I wanted to ask if anyone else has had this problem. Is there a solution to this? A way to completely reset WMP 12 to run it like for the first time?

Check that you have ticked "Remove files from computer when deleted from library"
It's under Tools/Options Library on the menu bar.

I have it unchecked on purpose. The problem is that it's as if the delete function on wmp isn't working at all. If I try to delete something on WMP, it does absolutely nothing. Also, before, if I deleted a folder with an album from My Music, the album would also be deleted too. The problem is that wmp shows albums in the library that are non existent (but that did exist at some point, obviously).

Thank you for your help anyway.

First you might try running sfc/scannow.

If that doesn't fix anything, you might try turning off WMP from Program and Features - Turn Windows Feature On and Off - Media Features. It will probably reset its settings. I have not tried that myself so I don't know what the outcome would be. It's up to you to make that call. It says it might affect WMC and WDVD maker also (resetting those features as well). It will probably ask you to restart and configure itself for a bit. Then go back and turn it on again.

If that doesn't correct it, you might try a repair install.

I had the same problem and I tried everything suggested here. The only way to get it to work was to re-install the OS

edit: since upgrading to the RTM, I've had no problems at all

tw33k, I'm running the RTM, so whatever this bug is, apparently it's possible that it can happen again.

The problem seems to have fixed itself after creating a new account. I'm not sure if it was that that fixed it, but everything seems to be back to normal again.

    Thanks.

    WMP 12 Library Duplicates Fix

My WMP started doubling up new album tracks I was adding to my library and I could not remove them. I tried both radio options (remove just tracks and remove tracks and files). What I did that fixed it was Tools / Advanced / Restore Media Library. I was prompted about removing all tracks and WMP would close. Upon re-opening WMP, it re-scanned all my music and Voila! No more duplicates. I had all my play lists in tact, just my music library fixed. Hope this helps others with this issue out.
