Windows 7: Sometimes my music will "skip"

What is wrong with my sound?!?!

I play my music files on Windows Media Player. Sometimes, towards the end of the song, my music would "skip," as if someone quickly pressed the play/pause button twice.

Is this a problem with my hard disk, or is it a problem with my audio driver?

I don't know what my sound card or motherboard is, but my laptop model is Sager NP5165.

I have updated the driver that came with it, the Realtek High Definition Audio driver, to the latest version.

There is also another device listed, called High Definition Audio Device, but I don't know what that is.

Also, I have THX TruStudio Pro turned on. It's a program that enhances the sound.

Edit: Even when disabling the THX TruStudio Pro, the music will still skip.

Edit2: There's another problem with my sound now. Sometimes, when I am listening to music, Windows media player would tell me that it failed to play the file. If I click "web help" Microsoft's help page tells me to update my drivers.

Not only can I not listen to music using Windows media player but I also can't get sound from other applications, and there is no sound when streaming videos on YouTube.

I have already updated my drivers a couple of times, from Realtek. What now?

Please help. The problems with my sound are getting more and more worse, and I have already re-installed my sound driver several times. I also ran a program from Microsoft that would detect problems, but as expected of Microsoft's self-diagnosis tools, it detected no problems.

I have no idea what to do. The only solution I hear is "Re-install your sound driver" or "Update your drivers." What next?

This problem only started happening for the past two days.

Now my music is skipping constantly and sometimes not play at all. Videos on youtube will not play either.

It sounds like a codec problem to me go to Sharks website and install the correct codec pack for your operating system either 32 bit or 64 bit. It looks like you using 64 bit so here is the link to his website download or actually majorgeeks is the ones who host it:

First, my own recommendation is NOT to tamper with the codec foundation that is part of Win7 by installing outside codec packs... especially Shark. That's my own opinion, and others may differ. The fact is that the basic music format support in Win7 is essentially universal, and no outside codecs should be needed at all (well, aside from FLAC) when using WMP. But for sure, there are many outside 3rd-party player programs that play ALL music file formats, including FLAC.

Next, you haven't provided any details about the particular music file types you're having trouble with. Are they WAV, MP3, FLAC, APE, WMA, what??? Which music file formats are failing? Do any music files play smoothly to the end?

Finally, you should at least try some other media player program than WMP to play the same music files which are causing problems with WMP. For example, if you don't have it already installed Winamp is free and plays all of the above music types... and does NOT need any external codecs to be installed. Or, you can install VideoLan's VLC player, which is also free and plays just about ANY audio/video file... and again does NOT need any external codecs to be installed.

Please report back if using either of these other media players also produce the same music-skipping symptom you say occurs with WMP.

I am making a new thread. I originally posted this in the "audio" forum because this was an audio problem. Youtube videos and system sounds would not play.

Some incompetent mod (yes I'm mad) moved this thread to "Music, pictures, and Audio" board, and this thread did not get any responses except for the one guy who tried to tell me it was a codec issue.

So I am making a new thread.

Reporting back: The problems were gone for a few days when I changed the "Default Format" in the advanced tab on the speaker properties dialog box. The problems I had are back though.
