I know this, every time i customize the look of the folder and apply to all folders..nothing saves after i apply. I go right back into the folder and its selected to details pane..

i changed the layout to pictures and it goes right back to general items..nothing is saving.

could a service be turned off or something?

apparently looking around shows this is a MS screwup and it will never remember any view setting you give it??
Resetting all folder views to default may allow you to be able to apply the options again afterwards.

Could you post a screenshot of this to see if something stands out?

See if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to help for now.

As a test, create a new user account and see if it works properly while logged in it.
