Import Pictures- Can the 'only import new pictures' be overridden??? I have a couple of different (make) cameras and on my old computer with XP I imported them to the computer using the software that came with each camera. Since getting the new computer with Windows 7 I haven't bothered to load the various software and chose to use the Windows importer.
However, I just realized that when I do it this way the Windows importer default setting is to (rename) renumber them starting at 1 with each new import and put them into a new folder by date.
Having realized this, I changed the import settings to keep the original camera file number. I then removed those imported pictures to the recycle bin. Next I attempted to import the pictures once again from my camera using the new setting. However, the computer won't allow it, saying there are no pictures detected in the device. The default setting is to only import new pictures. THE QUESTION: Does anyone know how/where to override the 'only import new pictures' setting in the computer so I can import my pictures a second time?
There are a lot and retrieving them from the recycle bin and renaming them all is going to be a lot of time-consuming work that I don't want to tackle unless it is the only option.
Thanks. | My System Specs |

Hi, Photogirl. Wish I could help you, because I'm having a similar problem. I've got photos on my camera which I can't find on the computer, although the computer says they're there -- somewhere, I guess, but I'll be darned if I can find them. I'd like to import them again, but...
I'll keep trying, and I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
Surely someone out there knows what to do. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit |

could you not pop the memory card in to the card reader slot on pc or lappy and go to the folders that way. then copy and paste the folders/files you want.
after that you can free up the space on the mem cards. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Hewlett packard/p6512uk OS Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7600 CPU IIx4 amd athelon 635 processor Motherboard FOXCONN 2AA9 Memory 2x2gb Graphics Card ati radeon HD 5450 Sound Card (1) Realtek High Definition Audio (2) AMD High Definition Monitor(s) Displays samsung lcd tv 32" Screen Resolution 1360x 768 Keyboard wireless hp Mouse wireless Hp,optical PSU ? To re-import pictures Hi, again. Success! A reply from jrdaddykins to a similar question gives instructions, and I know they work, because I did it!
Thanks, jrdaddykins!
I can't figure out how to copy his answer (quote), so I'll have to write it out.
- launch Windows Live Photo Gallery. (You may have to download this.)
- then, and only then, connect your camera/USB drive
- select the required device when the list is displayed (i.e. camera)
- click on import
- choose Review, organize, and group items to import
- click on More Options...
- for Import To: click on Browse...Select All (very important!!!)
- tick the group of photos you want to import
- click on Enter a Name, and type the name you want to apply to all the photos, i.e. Central Park
- click on View all X items to see thumbnails of all the photos in the chosen group, and untick any that you don't want to import
- make sure again that you've only got the entire group ticked
- click on Import
- The photos will then be imported to your chosen folder and will be numbered sequentially, i.e. Central Park oo1, Central Park 002, etc.
- Just like XP!!!
Trust me - it gets easier with practice.
Hope this helps. Bye. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit |

This is a nice procedure but who wants to jump thru all those hops. The method that boohbah posted is a lot easier and more elegant - I think. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Well, these two suggestions didn't come for a few days and I needed a solution quickly. So I didn't use either one. It didn't occur to me to use your method of copy and paste unfortunately, so I ended up renaming them all. It wasn't as arduous a task as I thought it was going to be, but if it happens again in future, I will probably use your method. I really appreciate the effort Lavica went to to find a solution and I'm glad it worked.
Looking back on my question it seems a bit silly now after seeing your suggestion. But hey, that's how we learn right!
