My take: MPC Home Cinema. Download Media Player Classic Home Cinema, Free Video Player Download It is the only other player on my machine apart from WMP.
It can play bluray discs - full movie and not just m2ts files - with an on-the-fly decrypter running in the background. I think VLC still cannot play bluray discs.

I use VLC several times a day, and usually don't have any problems, but I would suggest that you avoid using the custom skin option in it, because it causes problems on my dual monitor setup, particularly with properly resizing from my 1080p monitor to my old 17" CRT.

VLC is what I use to play files that Zoom Player can't.
Zoom Player is my player of choice and I use it as my primary video player.
