Formatting dvd for use in a dvd recorder

    Hi,
Hope this is the right place for this question:

I have a Sony dvd recorder which has decided to stop formatting dvd's (all types -r, -rw, +rw etc).
I have a lot of tv programmes now stuck on the Sony's hdd that I need, and wondered if I could use my pc to format dvd's, so that the Sony's format function is bypassed.
    Is this possible please ?

    Regards.

It needs to be a re-writable DVD in order to erase it.

    Sorry, I wasn't clear.

The problem is that brand new dvd's will not format in the Sony dvd recorder. Doesn't seem to matter what format or brand is used.

I just wondered if I could use my pc for the format process and bypass the Sony format process. That way the Sony would see an empty formatted dvd and let me copy to it.

    Thanks.

Sony is one of the Companys that support DVD RAM disks. Use it in the recorder to copy to. Your PC will then be able to use it.
