I use iTunes (have an iPhone) to manage my TV, movie, and music files. I do not view the mp4's using iTunes--instead, at this point, I use Windows Media Player (don't like the alternatives that I've tried).
When importing into iTunes, I convert all files to mp3 or mp4 and store on 1TB external drive. In the File Explorer window, iTunes has sorted the video files into Series Name with subfolders of Season Number (which is the other main reason I use iTunes). Each individual file has been renamed with the Episode Name and has been appended with the episode number (01, 02...) before the file name.
Problem: using xBox, or Windows Media Center, I cannot see the episode numbers. The files only have their episode names. I can't tell which episode comes first, second, etc... And, in fact, when using Media Center or the Media Player to view the list of files, I can't tell what show, season, or episode number they are, only the name of the file. When I view the files using File Explorer, I can see the episode numbers.
Attached are two png files: one is of the WMP listing of a couple video files, the other is of File Explorer: showing the episode #'s and season # (at the top).
