HD video files do not run on Nvidia card, instead integrated card!!!

Hi I have recently purchased Samsung RF511 notebook and I have been trying to run HD video files(mkv) and they do run but it is very laggy and stuttering occurs very often. So I looked a bit into this matter and what I have found is that the VLC player that I am using to play the video files runs of the onboard graphics card and not the nvidia 540M card that is also installed in this notebook. So can someone one plzz put me on the right track.

BIOS Setting

It seems like you haven't disabled the onboard graphics card in your BIOS.

  1. Reboot your computer
  2. Try to get into the BIOS (this can be tricky and may take several attempts).
  3. There should be a setting which will disable the onboard graphics.

Nvidia 540M is your onboard graphic card, there is only one graphic card in your laptop and that is the Nvidia 540M.
Go into you BIOs and check the graphic settings and see how much ram is being allocated to the graphic card and if possible increase it to the max that you can.

Oh ****!
If you only have one graphics card DON'T disable it.

Are the video files you are playing on the local HDD or streaming from the Internet?

If local HDD, have you tried playing them on another system to see if the same issues occur?

Hi guys thx for replying and yes i did a bit of reasarch and found out that the laptop that I have is equiped with Nvidia Optimus technology.

All of you knw more then me but from what I have read is that this technology combines both the nvidia and integrated card to save power so when you play games nvidia card kicks in and at other times its the intel card that does the job.

Furthermore I found that the card will only be triggerd by dx applications which kinda silly if you want to watch HD videos. Howvere I have downloaded DivX and it seems to work with the nvidia card and the problem has now been solved but it is still silly of them to not allow the user to assign programs that should use Nvidia card.

Anyways thx to you all for helping and have a nice Christmas.
