You can restrict by user and PC.

Users won't even be shown content they have no access to.
ok, well thanks alot baarod for the input and responses. Guess i will wait till RC and then maybe pick your brain again on this. This is a huge feature for 7 IMO, especially in the age of extenders now, and how in the near future this will become more mainstream i see. instead of hooking up a pc in every room, or an xbox360...

curious if you know.... but, do the old xbox systems work with MC/7 ?

This digital home initiative was Bill's pet project. He saw it as a way to finally beat Apple. The old XBOX systems had a disk you could put in as I recall. I don't own a console though, so I wouldn't know about them.

Ok baarod... now back to this if you please for a moment.

Now on RC, but still cant do what i want to. You mentioned about the restricting of content by user and/or pc. Can you point me in the right direction here? I have added media once again, and notice the parental rating column and the rating column. To refresh this situation, i am wanting to filter by parental rating. I still cant seem to find how to parental rate a media file, only to "rate" a file (star system).

baarod, i'm just guessing here, that what exactly i want to do, cant be done. Can only set video rating as unrated, cant have a G, PG, PG-13, R, and so on. Racking my brain here... If i setup the allowed media that i want to allow each specific user, on this pc locally on each users account's WMP/library, is that possible?

The only thing is, i'm thinking, even if i could and do this the way i stated, it wouldnt prevent the other restricted users from accessing my shared libraries. I wouldnt benefit if i had to restrict my own media in my library that i can watch have access to, whether thru a PC or the media extender. I guess a restriction would have to be done locally on that computer administratively, and not allow the change of what (star) rating of media could be accessed on the limited accounts.

Had a chance to give this a look yet baarod?

I have done a little more.... and then stopped...

With the extender, it will show any and all media shared on the connected PC, no matter if HG or not. I believe this is due as it must load what i have just thru WMP i have found. I also fooled with "My Movies". Tho i also found with it, it will not load subfolders in the parent dir, even with the newest update of it. Using MM to edit the parental tags one by one, well is tedious as hell imo. Atleast with WMP, editing of things can be done much faster. I just wish MS would load up a parental rating control setting for each HG user thru the WMP. Only setting can be done is the DVD playback, like i've stated before.

Which has led me to the conclusion that instead of using a parental rating for pc AND extender, i will have to either use the star rating, or a combo of both. Still that doesnt resolve the issue of have per HomeGroupUsers$ settings individually for access of or non access of HG shared libraries, original or created libraries. Everything as far as just individual access still goes the same way as XP. Thru the network share. This also raises a security question, as sharing with HG/EVERYONE, also shares with XP machine that knows a user account on the 7 machine. This may not be wanted by the user, network, or HG. Many reasons why this needs to be taken a closer look at.

I think the media streaming feature is there to kinda replace sharing of music, video and pictures. When I pick a user/computer combination from the "Media streaming options" dialog i can decide what they can see. But I have sharing turned off and streaming turned on.

There are plenty of tools to edit mp3 tags. Personally, I recommend you mp3Tag Pro. This program can be used to get information like titles, artists, albums, genres, lyrics, album art, and much more for your music files
