Playing FLAC in WMP12 - How to ensure correct version of Media Server?

I'm running Win 7 x64 with 32bit WMP12. I have FLAC showing with metadata and can play files locally. I have a Naim NDX Media Streamer and can not get FLAC to play through it via WMP - other files will. I understand that this may be connected to x64 not being compatible, so I have the x32 version running via a short cut to my desktop.

WMP shows my streamer but when I try to play a file it just constantly looks for the streamer and never finds it. Any ideas where I might be going wrong?

PS: It works perfectly well with JRiver / My River or n Stream via my ipad. That with FLAC or .wav etc. So it appears to be related directly to WMP.

flac wont play with wmp you will need to add a codec pack to enable wmp to play FLAC
try sharks windows codecs.

Thanks, I have downloaded codecs and tag software. It is the Play Now aspect of the Media Server that does not play FLAC - every other aspect of FLAC is fine.

i don't think this is related to the Streamer itself, just to WMP. JRiver works fine with the Naim.

I had a lool at the Shark007 link but it is confusing as to which actual bit of software is required. You seem to get linked all over the place - which actual codec do I need?

Thanks for those links and for trying to help out.

I installed both x32 & x64 codec packs but still can not stream FLAC with WMP. JRiver is still working fine so I guess I will to stick to that.

I probably would not have used WMP on a day to day basis but I don't like having software on my PC that does not function usefully. I guess it can not be removed very easily?

Hi Shark,

.flac files are associated with WMP in start/default programs/associate a file type or protocol or program

is that what you are referring to?
