Cannot get thumbnails for some video files.

    Running Windows 7 Pro X64.
Some *.avi files show thumbnails but others show an icon.
Folder view options the same for all sub-folders in the main video folder.
"Always show icons, never thumbnails" is unchecked.
Switching that setting causes a change in some folders but not in others.
Not a train smash, just annoying.
    Would welcome any tips.

which codec pack/s do you have installed?
if you have more than 1 installed. that could be the issue.

IMHO it's normal behaviour. When I glance through video thumbnails on W7 machines it's invariably so. Depends not solely upon the file format, but appears to be linked to resolution/compression. I'm not sure I would let it be an issue personally.

As far as I know only FFDSHOW.
That is the only one that shows up in my installed programs list.
Is there some way to check further?

    Download K-Lite Codec Pack 8.10 (Full) - FileHippo.com
klite codec pack is a good one too.only annoying thing about it is that it adds a "media info" to the context menu.

Why is that annoying? also you can uncheck that in the installation.
