Were they not placed in the Windows Recycle Bin when you deleted them from the camera?

If you didn't use SHIFT+delete when you deleted them (which would bypass the Recycle Bin) I would have expected them to be deleted from the camera but then copied into the Recycle Bin. And if they're in the Recycle Bin then you can restore them from there, right back onto the camera.

I'm fairly certain that any images deleted from your camera memory card will not be deposited in the recycle bin unless they have been copied to your hard drive first, but by all means check as dsperber suggests.

However, deleted images can be recovered as this article explains: How to recover accidentally deleted photos from a memory card (for free!) | ZDNet

A search on Google will also reveal the whereabouts of data recovery programs, some free and some not free.

connect the camera or insert the sd card in the card reader on your computer, start your recovery software,
then navigate to the sd card from within the recovery software, the sd card will be located in "computer"
either with the camera name or as a removable storage drive if just using the card.

Were these pictures on the memory card itself or the built in memory of the camera?

It is good to take backup of file which can save you from file losing, however no proper backup does not mean it cannot be recovered. You can try Kingston Elite Pro SD card recovery for resolving file loss from every type of memory card. Good luck!:)
