YouTube buffering Much of the time I can watch YouTube with no problem; however, sometimes the video pauses. Can Windows 7 be tweaked to correct this? Is it a hardware problem? I have a low-end HP desktop machine running Windows 7 Home Premium. | My System Specs |

as far as i know, it's more to do with your internet connection and general traffic conditions, so there's not a great deal you can do i'm afraid, apart from making sure you're not downloading anything else in the background in another tab for example. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number mickey megabyte 1234 OS ultimate 64 sp1 CPU i5 2500K 3.3@4.2GHz Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 Memory 8 gigs GSkill Ripjaws 1600 Graphics Card amd hd6950 Sound Card creative x-fi gamer Monitor(s) Displays samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard saitek eclipse ii Mouse logitech g3 PSU antec 550 Case antec three hundred Cooling i'm a cooling fan Hard Drives ocz vertex 2e 60 gig, samsung f3 1tb, buffalo 2tb ext Internet Speed about 4 Mbps Other Info i love win7 |

Start, then stop the video at the beginning for a few minutes to give it a chance to buffer. Then it usually runs smoothly. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

As a "work-around" rather than trying to watch the video as it's streaming, (particularly when it freezes too much as it streams) I often just download it, and then watch it uninterrupted whenever I wish.
If the video can't be downloaded, for whatever reason, I think your next best bet is to use whs's suggestion of pausing it for a period of time (to let the buffering process catch up) --- and then watching it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion dv5t (generation 1) OS Vista 64 bit and 32 bit (SP2) CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz Memory 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) Graphics Card 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescre Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Built-in HP Mouse Built in - Synaptics TouchPad V6.5 on PS/2 Port Hard Drives 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Internet Speed Max Other Info ~ Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card w/Bluetooth ~ Blu-Ray ROM DVD+/-R/RW ~ Integ. DLK, you can test your speed: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Additionally, Firefox has a few tweeks to attempt to increase speed, many of which aren't recommended for simple compatability issues with websites, etc. I personally use IE9 which seems pretty fast.
As well, you can pay more to increase speed with your ISP. There are certain times of the day where internet traffic is less and video watching is more smooth. Sometimes, upgrading hardware allows you to get better video streaming.
A wired connection usually has the strongest connection in speed. But you can try different versions of the same driver for your wireless adapter. Some will give differing speeds at times, believe it or not. But the most stable and secure driver is usually the latest driver. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron M5040 OS Windows 8 Pro with Media Center x64 CPU AMD E-450 APU 1.65 GHz Memory 4GB Graphics Card Built-in Radeon HD 6320 Graphics Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 Cooling fan Hard Drives 500GB Internet Speed 2.86Mbps Download Speed, 2.85Mbps Upload Speed & 26ms Ping Antivirus Defender Browser IE10 |

Another thing you can do is lower down the quality of the video.
1080p being the highest, 240p being the lowest. If you set it at 240p, it should be able to run efficiently.
The higher the quality, the more internet you need. The lower the quality, the less you'll need.
1080p delivers higher quality
240p delivers low quality.
I would test each one out: 240p, 480p, 720p, 1080p and see which one is fastest personally. I am too impatient waiting for buffers. 480p is good enough for me anyway really. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i5 2500k at 3.3 GhZ Memory 2x4GB DDR3 1333Hz Graphics Card Ati Radeon 6770 Sound Card Speakers Monitor(s) Displays 1x 15" HD 572 Screen Resolution 1024x768 Keyboard Wired Keyboard Mouse Wired Mouse PSU 500W Cooling 3x Fans Hard Drives 2x500GB Internet Speed 10MB/s Other Info Netbook: Dell Inspiron Mini YouTube buffering problems?
