are imported cds illegal? Are these 2 Green Day japanese cds a pirated, bootleg or a legal release:
1. Foot In Mouth
2. Bowling, Bowling, Bowling, Parking, Parking
All I know is, that they're out of print, but not sure if they're legal to buy.
I never see those 2 cds in the stores, only online stores like Amazon and eBay.
What about other non-American (import) cds, are those illegal?
Also, what about Asian VCDs, are they legal, or are they just pirated movies?
Thanks.

hi heather, and welcome to sevenforums,
the green day discs you mention are from live performances in japan, and were only released in that country - that's why you won't find them in the shops at home ( according to wikipedia) - there's nothing illegal about them.
there's also nothing necessarily illegal about other import cd's - maybe some are pirate, maybe some are official - you can't just assume that all imports are pirated.
i would avoid vcd's, not because of copyright concersns, but picture quality issues. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number mickey megabyte 1234 OS ultimate 64 sp1 CPU i5 2500K 3.3@4.2GHz Motherboard MSI P67A-GD53 Memory 8 gigs GSkill Ripjaws 1600 Graphics Card amd hd6950 Sound Card creative x-fi gamer Monitor(s) Displays samsung 24" Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard saitek eclipse ii Mouse logitech g3 PSU antec 550 Case antec three hundred Cooling i'm a cooling fan Hard Drives ocz vertex 2e 60 gig, samsung f3 1tb, buffalo 2tb ext Internet Speed about 4 Mbps Other Info i love win7 |

I just hope that if they're imported there are not any Region Code issues. That would be a stupid problem to run into. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built System OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Motherboard ASUS Sabertooth 990fx Memory Corsair Vengeance LP (4x4G) Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 6850 Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays LG Flatron E2040 Screen Resolution 1600x900 Keyboard i-rocks Orange back-lit 104 Key USB Wired Keyboard Mouse NZXT Avatar Black PSU AZZA Dynamo 850W Case NZXT Phantom Cooling Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus Hard Drives Hitachi 1TB HDD Internet Speed 20.57 Mb/s Download, 5.3 Mb/s Upload |

VCD's on the other hand are Color System based, NTSC, PAL, SECAM, so stand-alone DVD players can only play discs that are of their Color System.
I am unsure if VCD's use region codes as well. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HAL-9000 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU Intel i7 2600K @ 4.44Ghz Motherboard Asus P8P67 Pro Rev 3.1 Memory 16GB DDR3 1333 Corsair XMS3 Graphics Card XFX HD5850 1GB EyeFinity Sound Card Logitech G35 & Sennheiser PC135 & VIA HD Monitor(s) Displays 23" HP 2310e, 23" Samsung B2230, 21.5" Viewsonic Screen Resolution 5760x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 and G13 Mouse Logitech G700 Gaming Mouse PSU Antec True Power New 650watt Case Cooler Master HAF-932 Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler, 3x 230mm Fans, 2x120mm Fan Hard Drives 16TB of Storage

Unless you trust your source, you wouldn't know whether you are buying a legal version or a bootleg. The world is full of counterfeiters and many of them are in Asia.

YouTube Question Is downloading Green Day concerts from youtube, then converting them to divx and mp3, illegal? I was just wondering, because of Megaupload is shut down now.
I don't trust downloading bootlegs from any site anymore, but I'm not sure if youtube is legal? Are they still bootlegs?I only want concerts, and TV Appearances of Green Day, for my iPod Classic 160gb. Thanks. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit |
