Windows 7 - Error on dvd player after buring dvd

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum. I am having a problem with burning my movie I made using Windows live movie maker. I was so proud of myself,,made a movie with pictures from my sons variety show at school along with some of the videos I took using my new Sony Bloogie video camera. When I clicked on burn to DVD it wanted me to save my moive to my files,and how I wanted to save it,,I clicked "with a CD/DVD player,which I did,then from there I went to my computer,clicked on my DVD RW drive (D),dragged the movie I wanted to burn,didn't take long. But it doesn't play on my DVD Player, it shows up as an error,,but does play on my laptop,,which is where I burned it on and so forth.. Someone please help me,,I love Windows movie maker,,I was using another on my computer,but when I saw that my daughters laptop had this one,,wellll it goes without saying..

I'm on my third cup of coffee and pretty soon will be swimming in my tears if I don't get some help soon.

I even thought that if I could send it in my email to my other computer and burn it from there it might just work,,but the files is to big to send in my email..even formatted for email and still too big! Still drinking coffee!

Hi Crafty, I don't use Windows Movie Maker, so not sure how much help I can be... I think the problem might be that you're just burning a video clip to a DVD? Or did you author a movie to DVD format?

Thank you Fred! I found out what I was doing wrong,,I feel so stupid,,I jumped the gun and went right to my files and tried to burn the Movie from there ,,.. The Window live movie maker converts it and once it does a window pops up and I should of burned it right from that window,but I closed it. The movies came out great! I do have one question,,

Sometimes when I burn a movie or slide show that I have made for someone, it sometimes doesn't play in their DVD player or laptop, but it does in my DVD player and laptop. I use a DVD-R disc to burn movies onto and someone told me that there is DVD +R discs too, but buring them both just incase one doesn't work in their DVD player is crazy,,so my questions are, What is the difference between the -R & +R and Is there a CD that has both the +R and -R combined together? I am still so new at making and burning movies and I just love it!

The difference between DVD-R & DVD+R is in the way the disc is burned and read. Several years ago it was an occasional issue for people playing back discs, but even then more than 93% of CD/DVD players on the market supported the -R discs. Most all drives now days support both formats, but switch to +R if you're having better luck with them. Also, the brand of blank DVD can be a problem too. They aren't all created equal.

Ask the person you made the disc for to try it in different computers and home DVD players. I don't use Windows Movie Maker, so I'm not sure what the available burning options are. You might want to check out some other DVD creation software programs. There are a lot of free ones out there. I use TMPgenc DVD Author myself (not free), they use to have another nice freeware program but there are others out there like DVD Flick, etc..
