Windows 7 keeps changing my pictures!! (filesize & modified date)

This one has been driving me crazy. It seems that Windows likes to modify my jpg files!! Modified date and filesize seems to change on its own, perhaps something to do with the thumbnail view in Explorer.

Any ideas why this happens and how I can stop it happening?

    Cheers

I can't guarantee you'll find a definitive answer, but you might want to read through this Microsoft article on working with files and folders.

Windows 7 has a few automatic features which even i couldn't figure out. For me this came when i tried to edit a photo using live photo gallery, it seems any work you do on the file is saved and can be reverted back. I have this folder which is not in my pictures but contains all my photos and is on a separate drive. All of a sudden one day when i click library it pops up there even though i did not add it to the library. Strange.

Can you change the resolution in live photo gallery. I need to change back and forth between 72 and 300 dpi on some photos.

Do you use Windows Media Center? Are these pictures in folders associated with your your "Pictures Library"?

I've seen very similar symptoms with videos, in folders that were part of the "Videos Library" that was accessible to Windows Media Center. Although I had never actually touched these videos in years, their "attribute" bytes were being set to "A" and file dates changes (which triggered getting backed up by my daily "incremental backup" procedures until I eliminated that folder from examination because of this annoyance).

I attribute it to WMC scanning these files for some reason, perhaps to develop thumbnails that can be viewed in WMC's presentations (e.g. for Recorded TV and Videos).

Anyway, it definitely was tied to Libraries, and WMC.
