Getting WMP12 to play my files

I just installed WIN7 on my desk top and I want to use one media player, WMP12. The main file types I want to play are flv,wmv,mpeg4,avi. I installed Windows 7 codec pack, as it seems to handle all these. However, flv files will not play (error=missing codec) and the flv thumbnails are missing. I also have UM player and it plays flv's ok. How do I get Windows 7 codec pack to work with WMP12 so I can play everything? Do I need something different (codec packs)?

This is what I have and WMP plays all formats.

CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack

This will play anything you throw at it.

Let me update here. With Windows 7 codec pack, I can play everything I need with WMP12.
I uninstalled UM Player, so now I just have WMP12. In my notes, I found that UM Player causes the FLV thumbnails to disappear after it is installed. Nuts. So, the only remaining problem is how do I get the FLV thumbnails to appear. All the other file types are ok.

If you want my advice, stay away from codec packs. They can throw a lot of monkey wrenches into your system. Rather use another player like VLC for .flv

Fix for FLV AVI missing thumbnails

I had a problem where all my FLV and AVI thumbnails didn't show the preview. I tried many things, but could not fix them. I found something that instantly fixed this, and is free. Download and install Media Preview from BabelSoft.net/products.htm. In the settings menu Video, select ALL file types. Your problem will be solved. You can get rid of those stupid railroad tracks with this too. To play FLV files with Windows Media Player, I downloaded Windows 7 Codec Pack. I hope this saves others from a lot of wasted time!
