If you press Alt shortly, the menu will appear. There, in "Tools"->"Advanced" you should find an option that's called "restore media library" (or similar, I'm using the German version). This will delete your complete library (not the files, only the database), and on the next startup of WMP, it will be rebuilt completely (might take a while though).

Very true. Make sure you follow both advices (in order), the first one usually works, the second is a bit more advanced but I carefully covered that in the tutorial.

    Good luck :)

I've used the tutorial several times as the WMP library seems prone to corruption, particularly if you change the contents frequently.

Very true. One would think that WMP uses more than just information from the Windows' Music library when importing media, but no. Once it's in there, WMP's library takes over which seems to be completely detached from the actual Windows' library, only taking information from it for adding new files; in most cases it does nothing more. Totally weird.

That is my experience too, and not just with music, pictures and Video are just the same.

Maybe my computer is weird, but so far I only had library problems once, which were solved by the suggestion I posted. Otherwise, WMP neatly keeps the database and files in sync for me.

iTunes on the other hand... now that is a messy music database...
