Windows 7 - 7-Zip and Windows 7 photo viewer |

7-Zip and Windows 7 photo viewer I had encrypted/zipped some photos using 7-zip when I had XP. I moved to Windows 7 RTM yesterday. When I moved my files over and tried to open my photos with 7 zip file manager, the Windows 7 photo viewer opened with a message that said the photos couldn't be open because they either are missing or in an unavailable location.
I changed the default program to open pictures, as a test, with IE, after reading it as a work around on a thread elsewhere.
Viola! Eureka, it works. I am so relieved I haven't lost my data.
But 7-Zip is such a nice program. Is there a way to make it compatible with Windows 7 photo viewer? Ore does the Windows development team &/or the 7 zip folks need to take some sort of programming to get them to work together?

Is extracting and then viewing an issue?
Otherwise, as far as I'm aware, you cannot use photo viewer to view a compressed 7-zip image. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS 7 Ultimate x64 CPU i5 2500K 4.7 Ghz Motherboard ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Gen 3 Memory 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 2133mhz Graphics Card Asus GTX 580 DirectCU II Sound Card X-FI Forte 7.1 + ATH-AD900 Headphones Monitor(s) Displays x2 Dell U2410 / 58" Samsung / "40 Sony Screen Resolution 1920*1200 / 1920*1080 Keyboard Topre Realforce // Ducky Shine MX Black // Filco Ninja TKL Mouse Razer Imperator + Razer Lachesis PSU Corsair AX1200W Case Lian Li PC-V1020A Cooling Noctua NH-D14: 3x140mm Gelid Wing 14 : Noctua NF-P12 120mm Hard Drives 2x Intel 520 240GB * Crucial M4 128GB * 2x Samsung F3 1TB (RAID 0) * 2x WD Caviar Blacks 2TB (RAID 0) Other Info Laptop Specs:

Viewing images from within a compressed file is a common action. I use WinRAR/Phot Viewer without difficulty. I will test with 7-Zip to see if it works on my install. brb | My System Specs | | |

Works fine on my machine. 7 x64 7600.16385

I am retiring for the night. But at least we have determined that you have an issue that can be resolved. Perhaps an uninstall/re-install of 7zip?

Yes i uninstalled and reinstalled the latest.
I can view the pictures upon entering my password, but only with an application other than photo viewer. IE8 works and photogallery works. I'd rather get photo viewer to work.

Well I decided to try Irfanview; I hadn't used it in a while. Works great! I've made it my default photo viewing app. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom build; parts from the Egg OS windows 7 Professional 64 Bit CPU I7-3930 Motherboard Asus P9X79 PRO Memory G.Skill 4X 4 GB DR3 240 pin 16GB total Graphics Card EVGA 670 Sound Card Energy Take 5, Sennheiser HD 205 phones, X-FI Monitor(s) Displays Hanns G 21.5" HH221 and Samsung 19" 940BW and Hannspree Screen Resolution 2X 1920X1080 and 1X 1440X900 Keyboard Logitech Wireless and backlit Mouse Logitech Rollerball PSU 1000 Watt XFX Pro Series Case Thermaltake Chaser Cooling Corsair H80 Hard Drives 3-- internal 250 GB WD; 1-- internal 1 TB Samsung ---plus 3 WD external HDs (sizes vary to 1.5 TB); Crucial M4 128GB SSD, 1 Pioneer BDR-207 Bluray writer;

i would replace 7-zip with winrar. winrar is far more versatile in viewing and installing files without extracting them than 7-zip is. plus regardless of the claims 7-zip does not compress the file any smaller than winrar does except in a few cases. the copies of files that 7-zip did compress smaller than winrar ended up being corrupted and could not be uncompressed with out errors. plus winrar is slowly becoming the default standard online. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number InternetLord OS Windows 7 Eternity Build 7600 RTM Activated x86 CPU Core2Duo E8400 Motherboard Asus Rampage Formula Memory 3gis DDR2 6400 Graphics Card Asus NVidia 9500 GTX 512mb Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-e Monitor(s) Displays SCEPTRE X22WG-1080P 22" Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Logitech diNovo Edge Mouse Logitech LX8 Laser Mouse PSU 700 Watt Case U2-UFO Black Powder Coat - Solid Top www.mountainmod.com Cooling 7 x 120mm 2,500rpm case fans, Ultra ChillTEC Thermoelectric Hard Drives Western Digital 300gig SATA VelociRaptor 10,000rpm

Yes I was very worried for a while that somehow something was corrupted or just not working under 7 in liue of XP.
But then I read the thread on a different forum of other people having this problem ONLY with the Win 7 photo viewer.
Irfanview works fine and seems fairly customizable too. So I see no need to switch back to 7's built in viewr and using rar; I do have rar installed but much prefer 7 zip's interface.
