No sound, cannot open video or image files without error?
Allow me to say that I am really terrible with computers and technical lingo, so forgive me if this a problem with an obvious fix that I can't see, but I'm very confused.
This started last night. I found that for some reason there is no sound coming from this computer, or at least google chrome/firefox. I read that this is a flash error but this isn't the only problem I'm experiencing.
Whenever I try to open a music or video file, no matter the extension, I get a "class not registered" error so I don't know if the sound problem is a browser thing or something else.
I've tried opening image files and get the same message.
I can no longer open Internet Explorer; no error message, it just doesn't open anymore.
I've tried downloading Microsoft Fix It but I get an error message when it runs.
Tried running Malwarebytes but I get multiple runtime errors 0 and 372 when I attempt to scan.
Whenever I try to shut down my laptop I get a csc.exe error and have to force close.
I've tried to perform a system restore but I get "system restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system", same thing happens in safe mode.
I've tried fixing the class registered error with the regsvr32 quartz.dll command but then I get an error message saying that the call to DIIRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005.
I've attempted to uninstall a few programs that I've been meaning to get rid of just as an experiment but nothing happens when I click "uninstall a program" in Control Panel.
So in short I am unable to do anything with my Toshiba Satellite C675 other than browse Google Chrome with no sound. I'm assuming I got a virus but I have no idea what to do now.
And I apologize for not being able to be more specific with the error names. I've tried uploading screeshots but nothing happens when I click "choose file", same with every other site I visit.
