Picture opens in one photo editor but not another

Any suggestions why some of my pictures should not open in my Photoplus program ( very similar to Adobe Photoshop Elements) but open in Irfanview?

In the Windows 7 Pictures folder thumbnails show properly and Photplus is set as default

Hello rundwald,

Is there any method to the madness?

What I meant by that question is, do the affected picture files have anything in common; be it file type, size, bit depth, or resolution?

Apologies for no reply but line has been OOO since 8/7 to today.
Not as far as I know bar that all are jpgs taken on three cameras, though majority are on old Olympus C750UZ.

Found dodge to open in Irfanview and then resave with same file name. File sizes do increase or decrease seemingly at random though
