Hello ladycody and welcome to Seven Forums.
Are you by any chance using Norton 360 or Mozy Home Backup? These two products have been known to put green check marks on items as an indication that they've been backed up

If you're not using either of these two products could you take a screenshot of those check marks and upload them for a quick peek?

I do use Norton Security Package by Comcast
I don't use Norton so I'm not familiar with their various user options. But if you open the Norton main window you should see a link for Settings. Somewheres under Settings you may find an option for Backup Settings or perhaps a direct check/uncheck box to turn Backup Status Indicators on or off. If you don't want those green check marks appearing just uncheck Backup Status Indicators. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
It worked! Thanks much. Now can you suggest to get into my laptop past the login ID.
Somehow none of the IDs I have won't open it up. It's a Windows 7 OS.
