COM Surrogate Error in Windows Photo Viewer

Hi

Since last week I have been getting a COM Surrogate error in Windows Photo Viewer. I can see the photos in the Picture Library but when I open one up I cannot move onto the next photo without the Com Surrogate Error and Slideshow is not working either. I am not aware of anything being downloaded or deleted recently. and it would appear that all of my drivers are correct. The first record of it on my reliability history is below:-

I have looked at a number of these threads. As a novice I felt comfortable to try some of the suggested fixes but others leave me uncertain.

1. I have Kaspersky anti-virus. It would appear there was an issue reported in 2010 but it was resolved and I had Kaspersky back then so don't think it is anything to do with that.

2. I have windows 64-bit so cannot do the suggested solution for windows 32-bit, message is 'you can not set DEP attributes on 64-bit executables'.

3. I have run a scannow and the message is 'Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations'.

4. The Com Surrogate error happens whether under the 'folder and search options' always show icons, never thumbnails is ticked or not.

This is the extent of my knowledge can anybody please Help.

I should add that this would appear to be an intermittant problem. No sooner had I typed the message above I went back into Pictures and everything appeared to be working normally. I have just gone back in and the some Com Surrogate error has come up.

COM surrogate error from CDs

Working from my desktop under Windows 7:
I have burnt files of JPEG photos to CD using either Windows 7 CD burner or a proprietary program. All files display correctly from the copy on the hard disc. The files are consecutively numbered

When playing back from the CD on the same machine
  1. Lists and thumbnails display correctly
  2. SOME of the files display correctly. Others, typically the high numbered files, will not display and, on attempting to close Windows photo viewer, give the COM surrogate not responding error.
I can put the disk into my laptop under Windows XP and all files display correctly.
I can copy a suspect file onto the laptop and read it correctly on the desktop through my network.

I have burnt other disks of the same files and had no trouble.

I should appreciate any suggestions as to how to clear this problem
