Windows 7: Drag & Drop Problem

When I attempt to Drag & Drop a photo in any of my photo folders just to reposition it I get a small circle with a bar across it. I know what this means "it can't be done" but why?? Is there a setting somewhere that will allow it?
It is very annoying because if I want to group a number of photos together to email to someone I can't do it.

Install Picasa3 .... it's will search for all photos so you have them in one place. Select the ones you want to send, click on 'hold', then send the whole group

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am aware that it is possible to do it in other programs. Also, adding a group of photos individually to email in "Windows Live Mail" is no real hassle. I was just wondering, as you can Drag & Drop easily in XP & Vista, why it can't be done in Windows 7. I though that I may have had a setting incorrectly set.

I am having the same problem, and it's infuriating!!! I specifically chose this netbook with the new Windows 7 instead of the tried and true Windows XP because I was SURE that it would totally kick butt, having been so enamored with XP's features!

I swear, I feel like returning it and getting the XP version!

I'm not really sure what exactly you are trying to do here. At first, it sounds like you are just trying to drag files around in the same folder, but then you talk about emailing pictures via drag & drop which is a completely different scenario.

Regardless, your problems most likely have to do with the running privilege levels of each application. If you have file explorer running as normal user and a program running as admin or elevated user, you won't be able to drag & drop things across the two. Hopefully that makes sense and helps you arrive at a solution.

I think he means manual arrangement in folders which was removed, because some dumb f*ck thought people don't use it.

FliGi7, I'm not sure why people have a problem understanding what the problem is here? Maybe it's just TOO simple?

Let's say that I have six photos--three of my dog and three of my cat. I want to move the three photos of my dog so that photos 1,2 and 3 are of my dog, in a line. I want photos 4,5 and 6 to be of my cat. I cannot do this without renumbering them (a tedious, time-wasting process!) I cannot simply drag the photos next to each other and have them "insert" themselves between each other--they'll stay stuck right like they are.

You can't do this by changing the view to "details" because you simply can't see what the heck you're moving!

This is a HUGE oversight on Windows 7--so much so that I would not hesitate to advise people AWAY from purchasing it! If you use your photo library as much as I, and most people do, this puts Windows 7 at the level of a kindergarten program for tots, in my opinion!

Ah, I see what you're saying now. Hm, that is interesting and I haven't actually experienced that myself, so I'll have to play around with it when I get home tonight to see if I can see any sort of workaround or fix.
