I believe that you are having the same problem as me. Microsoft updated Movie Maker in July/August and it requires updated Intel graphics driver. Problem is, if you have a PC from say HP then you have to get the graphics driver from them (OEMs modify Intel basic to suit their motherboards) and currently - HP at least - has not updated their version of the Intel graphics driver. From discussions with then it is unknown when they will - very poor service on a 5 month old PC). So, the only solution appears to be to get back to an earlier version of Movie Maker, i.e. one before the latest update was broadcast. That's the crux of my question the other day.

I had Windows Movie Maker 2011 running on my HP p7-1287c desktop that runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. It was this version of Movie Maker that got a Microsoft upgrade, which then gave me the message that you get when I now try to run it. I went round and round with HP support and ended up with Movie Maker 2012 (which HP installed remotely). Of course that didn't work either, so I'd like to get back to an earlier version of Movie Maker 2011, since I've no idea when HP will release a new Intel graphics driver.

As an aside, I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop running Vista Home Premium 64bit. Movie Maker 2011 (build 15.4.3555.0308) runs fine on that, but despite having an Intel processor, it doesn't have an Intel graphics chip set and consequently an Intel graphics driver. It has a NVDIA Geforce 8400M GS.

    Hope this helps.

most likely problem with graphics card/driver. first make sure that your graphics processor support DX10 (if you use 2012 version) or DX9c (for 2011 version). then make sure that you have latest graphics driver available. if possible from chip maker site intel.com nvidia.com etc because some manufacturers dont update their drivers, there is manufacturers who lock their hardware only to be used with specific driver from their website, and then dont update that driver.. the only thing you can do if thats the case stay away from that manufacturer, or maybe find some modified driver or be stuck with old driver.
if your notebook has optimus install intel and nvidia driver.

can you post your direct x display diag sceen shot?
click the Start button , type dxdiag in the search box, and then, in the list of results, click dxdiag.exe. Click the Display tab. With dxdiag window active press alt+ print screen. open paint and paste. then save image and attach to your post.

    DirectX Version: DirectX 11.

You are correct in that the problem is HP have not updated their version of the Intel driver 8.15.10.2291 which they modified to Rev A. According to Microsoft, Movie Maker won't run with anything less than or equal to 8.15.10.2321. The latest driver from Intel is 8.15.10.2761 but unless HP puts thir modifications in other things might not work - according to HP. As you say, last HP PC I'll buy.
