    How to finalize a DVD-RW

I have used my PC (Acer aspire 5810TZG -Windows 7) to place some video on the DVD-RW. It plays ok on the PC but not on a DVD player (I had chosen the burn option where the intention was to mainly play it on a DVD player). I thought the problem might be that the disc needed to be finalized but there is no option to do that on the DVD drive options menu. I read that I need to go to "Start" - "Computer" - Highlight DVD drive - click on "complete the session" (on toolbar). No such wording appears on my screen!

You need to finalize it when you burn the DVD, not later. Use a regular program, rather than the internal Windows burning programs as they offer more options. I use Nero but that is not a free program.

There are several free and popular CD/DVD burning programs such as Imgburn, try that and see if it will allow you to do what you need to do. The Official ImgBurn Website

Thanks for your advice "Firebird". I will not act upon it yet as I cannot believe that Microsoft has not included a "Finalize" somewhere in their system. Indeed their site is the one where it tells you to follow the procedure I outlined in my original post. So really I want to know why I do not have this option to "close the session". Maybe it's because I'm using a RW disc?

The problem is Microsoft has not included a "finalise' in their system. I'm in the process of having to find a programme that only finalises the DVD. I can't see the point in downloading another DVD burner programme.

    Good Morning "Fernz",
I have now noticed that upon making a video recording on a Windows 7 machine; when the actual recording has completed, and then you notice that the disc has not automatically ejected; you press the eject key, you get a message saying that the machine will first complete the session so that the disc will play on another machine. However; when it eventually auto-ejects, you find that whilst the video plays ok on the computer (and maybe on other computers) it will not play in a DVD Player. (DVD-RW)

Now, when I want to move my camcorder footage from the camcorder to a DVD, I "Play" the footage into a DVD Recorder's HDD, edit it and then dub it from the DVD Recorder's HDD to its DVD. That way I can choose whether I want to finalise it now (if the DVD disc is full) or leave the finalizing until more footage is added later

Good morning 'thesaint', thanks for your reply. Is there any loss of picture quality after the DVD been edited etc.?

No, excellent quality. DVD Recorder is a Sony. Used "Video Mode" and I do all my recordings at the best quality allowable - both on the Camcorder and the DVD recorder.
