    File Order (Video)

My video files constantly reorganize to "date last modified" every time i open the folder. why is that? it takes like 3 minutes because i have so many files. Why doesn't it just stay organized?

Hello Kpoverdorf, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You should be able to click on the column header (ex: Name) to have the folder sorted by that column instead.

    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...ort-stack.html

For example, click on the Name column until the small arrow is pointing upwards to have the folder contents sorted by their names ascending.

    Hope this helps,

    not so much

I know how to arrange the files. The issue is that I have them set to be ordered by date. When i close the folder and open it again later it has to automatically reorder everything all over again. The folder is "optimized" for video files by default from windows. Vista never did this. It always kept the order of the files so when I opened the folder it would look just they way it did when i left it.

If you see the attached screen shots you will see. When you first open the folder it is arranged by name. It then immediately begins to auto arrange by date, but it goes very slow and take about a min or so. As you can see by the progress bar, I had plenty of time to take that SS.

It's also odd how long it takes to arrange the files. Vista would arrange everything is a split second, where as 7 takes a good minute.

I'm not sure why it would take that long to sort them when you have it in List view. As a test, turn off thumbnail previews for Windows Explorer to see if it still takes as long afterwards.

    I figured it out.

When the folder is optimized for "video" files it has to refresh every time i open it. I just set it for regular documents and it works fine now.
