Cannot Set RIP MUSIC in WMP 12

Last night I was able to change the rip music pointer but today it's empty and I cannot change it to what it was.
I accessed Documents/Music and chose Properties and click on Restore Defaults – did not fix the problem.

Background: I'm trying to rip an audio book so I can 'copy' it to my MP3. I've done it many times before.

Tried to rip the first audio book CD without the RIP MUSIC set, but got the message:
"WMP cannot rip one or more tracks from CD".

WMP has always seemed cumbersome ... Any suggestions for a better free ripping program.

I use the free "Audiograbber" for CD ripping. I've got several other ripping programs that came with other media programs but I keep coming back to the Audiograbber program. I bought it when it was shareware, it is freeware now.

BEWARE of AudioGrabber - even though I chose to opt out of (i.e. don't install) Fun Mood - the install of AG did it anyway.

I'm still trying to use the resulting ripped files as a continuous book.

You can use Winamp, but the free version doesn't let you rip to mp3; only to mp4, flac, ogg etc. Also you can try out FreeRIP Basic, I heard that it is a good one.

I recently installed Audiograbber on a new PC. Didn't have any problems with Fun Mood. I unchecked all the boxes related to it.
