Batch program to fix 'File did not start with JPEG marker'

I have recently recovered our entire photo folder from a reformatted drive (before you say it, it was backed up, however the folder was accidentally deleted rather than due to a failed drive and noticed a while after).

The photos are recovered as files however they won't open in most picture viewers including windows and Irfanview.

I used JPEGsnoop on a couple and the problem is the same:

NOTE: File did not start with JPEG marker. Consider using [Tools->Img Search Fwd] to locate embedded JPEG.

When I used Img Search Fwd I can recover the pic.

I have around 5,000 pics to recover so would like to be able to fix this in a batch. Does anyone know how this can be done?
