Windows 7: WMC and WMP not playing anything!

Hello everyone! been here for a 2 weeks or so...and really liking this forum!

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate RTM x64 a couple of days ago. I set up WMC(Windows Media Centre) as my default audio player. Everything was working fine when I was using the Realtek Mobo sound. Yesterday, I put in my old Creative Audigy 2 ZS, d/led the drivers from the website and it worked fine. WMC had no problems at all. Today morn' i tried playing a song and it didn't work. In fact, none of them worked @ all. I have attached the error that it shows. Even WMP does not play anything.

However, VLC is able to play them. I tried playing the songs from my external HDD also, but it still does not work with WMP or WMC. Even tried rebooting the comp.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: A window opened up when i clicked on Sound in the Control Panel askin me whether or not to disable driver enhancements for my sound card. Disabled the enhancements and WMC is working now!...wonder what's wrong with te drivers??
