    Entering Tags for photo files

Is it possible to access the file properties to enter enter tags for photos which are not stored in the Pictures of MY PIctures folders?
Most of my photos will not allow me to edit the details at all. I do not want to store all my photos in these folders

Not all images will allow you to access the tags, and not all image types actually support tags directly, though there is a system that uses "Sidecar" Files, which are small XML files that contain the data

One freeware application, actually designed for the maintenance of Geotags, that I have found useful in the past is GeoSetter you may wish to take a look at this as it may allow you to access the tags you need to - the location of the actual files should not matter, but to display in Explorer you will need to set the folders as pictures

    Hope this helps

    Thanks that certaily does.
However I now have another problem - I am not always able to edit the properties including the tag in the files. If I do a "Save as" and save the file under another name all is well.
The file is not a read-only - have tried to find a resaon online but to no avail.
Have adminstrator rights - no luck

What format are the images in when you are unable to access the tags, it looks like some form of permissions issue, you appear to have some permissions but not all you need - you may want to go into the file security settings and give your specific user full control of the file which may sort out the issue, This can be done at a folder level rather than each file to save time but may be better to work on an individual file to prove the concept.

The format was mainly .jpg, I took your advice and looked at the permissions - should have thought of that before. Bingo all is well!! Many thanks for your very prompt help.
