quality of pictures after burning to dvd

I create slideshows via Windows Live Movie Maker, and burn to dvd via Windows dvd Maker (thanx to everybody who answered my queries and solved several issues I posted on these topics, btw).
I now find when I play back the dvd either on my laptop, or tv, the quality of the photos is not very good, and is nothing like the original. If I play the scenes via WLMM, the quality is excellent, so it must be degraded either in converting to a wmv file (but I don't think so), or burning to dvd (... or possible poor quality dvd ? I'm using local shop badged dvd+rw).

    Any ideas out there ?

maybe adjust the burn speed to a low number.
that may help, not really my field of expertise.

I doubt that its the DVD or burn speed. I would more suspect the format/compression (if any) that the movie maker is set for.

I've used the Live Movie Maker to create some YouTube videos and did not have a problem with that. I haven't tried burning to a DVD with this program but it has to be how the Movie Maker is creating the file. There are lots of options in the program.
