Windows Media Player 12 wont start

I am using Win 7 pro 64bit, Media player was working fine until I installed CyberLiknk Power DVD 11 ultra.

I started getting messages when I started WMP about there was a error, not very informative so I uninstalled Cyberlink and WMP still gave me the same error, in my reading I saw several post about turning WMP off, reboot and turn it back on, when I try to turn it back on I get a message of "An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed."

well that didn't work very well, now WMP will not even start, if I try to start if from the Start/Programs/Windows/WMP it does nothing, I go to the exe and try running as admin and nothing happens, Icons for it are even gone.

I really need this as I use this computer to digitize 8mm film and my capture format is AVI

short of reformatting and starting all over I was wondering if Win 7 will let me reinstall on top of my current system and not affect everything else like I used to do with Win 3.2 - Win 98??

    or any other solutions?

    Thanks for looking

Welcome to Seven Forums super8mm. Try running the System File Checker 1st

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Run it several times if it finds issues it cannot correct. A Guy

    Thanks A Guy

I did sfc /scannow 6 times and it kept erroring out at 69% so I did the System Update Readiness tool and then retried the sfc /scannow several more times and it completed but said I had errors. I extracted the sfcdetail.txt file to my desk top and counted the errors, there are 181 of them.

from this it looks like a clean install would be a better idea?

You could try using a Restore Point before you installed CyberLiknk Power DVD 11 ultra and then do a sfc /scannow.

    Thanks LB
That is the very first thing I tried but every point I tried to go back to give me a message of

"System Restore did not complete successfully. your computers system files and settings were not changed."

CyberLiknk Power DVD 11 ultra must of changed some things that sfc /scannow can't repair. A Tutorial could be your answer. Please read everything.

I think your are right, it did say something about sharing with Windows Media Player

I guess when I uninstalled it it just deleted the shared files with it

    Thanks for your help
