yea that was definitely not the problem with me, but I did figure out how to fix my problem. If someone else is reading this thread, I had a problem opening pictures in the windows photo viewer as well as opening any of the games that came with windows 7 in the games explorer. I had upgraded Windows Vista 64 bit to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my hp touchsmart tx2 laptop, and i updated the graphics driver, called Microsoft who advised to activate my copy of windows which i did, all that didn't work.
The problem seemed to be the updated drivers for the ATI Radeon 3200 HD graphics card and with each update AMD and Microsoft failed to fix the problem. If you have this problem trying typing dxdiag into the Start menu and click on the Display tab and see if the Direct 3D acceleration is activated, because mine had been not available and I could not turn on the hardware acceleration from the control panel.
Thankful people much more acquainted with computers were able to solve this problem on another forum at WPF 3D applications broken by Mobility Radeon 3200 ATI drivers from Windows Update on HP TX2 laptop
Basically the problem is with any program that requires running the WPF (windows presentation foundation) 3D and this can be easily fixed by doing either or (or both): updating the BIOS (Basic Input/Ouput System) by going to your computers support website (for hp that is support.hp.com) and finding the winflash softwaree for the latest BIOS for windows 7 operating system (for this computer it was F.12) or another and easier solution is disable the AMD External Event Service by typing services.msc in the Start Menu then right click on AMD External Event Service and in the drop down menu next to startup type and change it to Disabled and then click Stop, then click OK and close the window.
Hope this helps with all the other windows 7 users out there who were as frustrated as I was.
Also please feel free to post this in other forums so that the solution is easier to find.

Hope I'm not too late, but thanks Harpua for the Faststone Image Viewer, it's awesome! I've been having problems with the Windows Photo Viewer, it just stucks at the 'Loading Page'. It was working well at first, but it's all messed up now. Even though I've found another application to replace it, if there is a answer or solution to fix the problem that would be cool. If anyone has any suggestion please let me know, thanks in advance.
EDIT: It seems like my Windows Photo Viewer isn't totally dead. I tried to open a JPEG and it opens the viewer page, and yes the Loading Page keeps running without any response BUT I am able to click onto the slide-show icon in the middle of the viewer and it automatically opens the pictures in slide-show. So my question is what is the problem now? Is my Photo Viewer corrupted or anything else? Anyways to fix this?

I had the EXACT same problem as you with my tx2 going from vista ultimate to win7 pro. (You also made me notice that my games didn't open!) I probably would have never figured out how to even google the problem, and the HP live support technicians were idiots. You saved me a lottt of trouble :)
I was able to resolve this particular issue by applying the BIOS update provided on HP's website for my tablet. The update was released for my tablet on August 28, 2009. It upgraded my BIOS from version F.15 (I believe) to F.21. Just tested and all is now working 100% even with the new Version 9.9 ATI driver.

For what it is worth, I was having the exact same problem with Windows 7. I switched from the Aero theme to Windows 7 basic and the problem went away.
Hopefully that will help others down the road!
Joined just to post this (I know it's an old thread, but someone touched it a couple of weeks ago). Had the same problem. On the advice above, went looking for the color profiles in %WINDIR%\system32\spool\drivers\color, and noticed that some of them were blue (i.e. compressed). Select-all, properties, advanced, and unchecked compression. AND IT FIXED IT.
Same problem here, I deleted 2 days ago the content of this folder to try to solve some printers issues on a customer's server. Fortunately I had a copy of it and I have been able to restore it.

I k now it's been awhile since this problem was addressed but I just had this problem today. I kept getting the "loading" message and then an error message. I went to the picture folder and none of the jpegs would open, so I right clicked and went to properties and saw that there was a button called "unblock". So I clicked on the unblock and that fixed my problem. Hope this helps someone. Another problem I have is when I watch a YouTube video now, it plays for awhile and then locks up or slows down and my whole PC is locked up and I have to hit the main off button to shut it down. I'll keep trying to figure it out. I'm a 68 yr. old grandma.
