Windows Photo Viewer Won't Open Load past "Loading..."

For some odd reason my Photo Viewer get stuck on "Loading..." when I open any image file. However, if I click the slide show button, the image loads up just fine.

Any idea's on what the issue is?

Can you be more specific about your issue.

One bug I've discovered is this:

If you add recent items to the start menu and open a picture from the library, when that file is added to recent items and clicked on it wont load.

Well basically whenever you open a picture file it should open Windows Photo Viewer, then show "loading..." then load the photo. My Photo Viewer sticks on "loading..."

I am not sure why it doesn't go past that. It eventually never loads the picture. However, clicking on the slide show center button makes the picture appear full screen

Hi there!
I have exactlythe same problem: whenever I try to open a picture in the Windows Photo viewer, the word "loading" appears and nothing happens. I don't know know how to solve the problem. Do you have any new ideas. My computer is tablet PC , windows 7. Yesterday I was able to open my photos but not anymore.

I used to have the same problem in Vista. There's a fix for it but it kept reoccurring after a while. Some database corruption I think. I got tired of it and found a better free app for viewing images.

I suggest downloading, installing & using a better free image viewer called Faststone Image Viewer and making that your default imaging viewing app, so when you click on pictures they will open in Faststone. It's a lot better and faster than Windows Photo Viewer.

Faststone may not be the best free editing app out there (although it's not bad), but for image viewing I don't think there is anything better.

Thank you for your message. I downloaded Faststone Image Viewer. It is great compared with the Window photo viewer. It has a full editing system. that isgreat. I don't really edit my photos with photo viewers because they are usually designed to be viewer. I usually use photoshop. My windows photo viewer worked today for about 5 minute andthen it stopped. That is strange. Once again thank you for the useful information.
cheers

I fixed the problem. It was because I deleted all the color profiles in the system32 directory. Once restored, everything should work perfect again.

Hello threefiftyli
I actually have the same problem. How did you manage to restore your color profiles?

Yes can you please tell us how to restore this color profiles in system32, i googled this phrase and nothing of usefulness showed up. I'm very frustrated that after installing a new OS for the past 3 hours, that something as simple and elementary as the photo viewer doesn't work. I also am having a problem with opening any of the standard games that come in the windows 7 game explorer, but I'm not sure if the two problems are related.

I never deleted my old color profiles, I just moved them to a temp folder. So by "restoring" them I just moved them out back to the original directory (C:\...system32\spool\drivers\color)

I touched these files because I color calibrated my lcd and I didn't think I needed the original profiles defaulted by windows.

If you haven't touched these files, then its a different issue entirely.

Going to the control panel -> color management will show you some of the original profiles that come with windows
