if you have multiples of the same photo with different names is there a short cut to delete all copies or multiples?

I use this - works well for me. Awesome Duplicate Photo Finder - Find and Remove Duplicate or Similar Images

You find a little guidance/tutorial I made here: Duplicate Photo Finder

You can use Windows Explorer to display a folder with small images of the pictures. In the upper right corner there's drop-down menu to the left of the Preview Pane and Get Help buttons. Click on the drop-down and select Large Icons or Extra Large Icons. This will show small images of the photos. You can then multi-select images by holding the control key and clicking on an image. After you've selected the pictures to delete, release the control key and right click on one of them. In the menu that appears, select Delete. If you make a mistake, go to the recycle bin and restore the photo(s).

Ops, Wolfgang posted while I was typing. I think his idea is easier if the program has selective options.

I think you are right. Try your method with a picture file of 5000 pics and hundreds of dups. You'll be busy for a while.

With the little program I posted it goes actuallly pretty fast once you have the hang of it. You need only some extra time when the matches are not 100%.

I don't make folders with 5000 pictures in them since I'd never find what I want any way but the program looks slick.

I generally organize mine by subject and date within a group subject so the folders rarely exceed 30-40 pictures. I batch process them right off the camera so that makes it easier too. But we all work differently.

Sure, you want to organize everything in subfolders. But the little program will go thru all the subfolders. You just tell it to search from the top.
