How do I organize all my photos collection?

I have about some 10GB of photo collection and I used to use Picasa for managing my photos till now. I want some software that does the job of searching for my photos like the Google image search. A software that searches using the search alogos for similar pictures in my collection. Suggest me both either paid or free, I'll look whether I can afford that paid ones.

    Hi,
All photo editing programs use basically the same searching capabilities and sorting options/ Name/ Descriptive tags/ Captions/ Face recognition.....
Personally I use Windows photo gallery which is Free and Included in Windows essentials 2012,
Windows Essentials: Worldwide Downloads - Free Email, Instant Messaging, and Photo Editing Software from Microsoft

But I've also used Picasa and thought it was okay except it really loads everything and I didn't like that part of it because I use separate folders for organizing and it simply scrolls down to the folder except excluding the other folders,

So what problems were you having with Picasa ?

I'm sure there's many other programs out there but I haven't used any,
Possibly other people will have more options to offer you,
    Cheers.

If you are looking for similar or duplicate pictures, I suggest Duplicate Photo Finder

The same problem, it loads all my collections, say like thousands of photos which's time consuming. I was looking for a option like we do on google search, upload or point some photo for refernece and the search returns all the similar or same looking pics

    Hi,
Actually wpg only loads everything once to get it's cache collected,
It does on start look for updates but at least it has a standard navigation pane where you can click on separate folders and that is all that is displayed,
And depending on the folder that is open when you close wlp is the folder that is opened when you start the program,
This was my preference over Picasa and some others not worth mentioning,
Pretty much as windows explorers navigation pane
All Photos and Videos is the Default but can easily be changed,

Yes, I observed it too, but does it have facial recognition?

Yes wpg does have face recognition features but wpg calls it People tags,
I don't know if it will read existing content from another program like Picasa but it's free so it's easy to see,
This is the settings page located on the top right/ Blue file button,

Here's a couple of screen shots of where the information would be found,
The red type is obviously for another reason but might help you find some some what hidden shortcuts

Thanks a lot Thrashzone. I explored all those options you mentioned. But I was pondering over the question of privacy WPG has that option but somewhere in my gut I feel If I block WPG not to connect to internet in firewall options, the program freezes on startup. IDK why?

Privacy can be accomplished a few ways,
One is to not sign into the program is not required to be signed in to use the program,
This would mean you would not be able to use the Email or share options on the toolbar/ ribbon = not a big loss :)

Second would be to adjust the settings a bit,
But these don't really hurt in anyway Windows it's self has the same options,

Microsoft already knows a boat load about all of use,
If I had to choose I would keep it narrowed to using a Microsoft program over a third party free program like Picasa...
Although I do use GIMP but I don't believe it has many organization options,
It's just a free awesome photo editor

Yeah I got that regarding signing into WPG. Hasn't anyone got this weird idea of a google image search like program before . BTW where can I start with GIMP, I mean I'm completely new to GIMP and wish to do some pretty stuff like gradient-layer modifications etc.
