DVD playing - UPSCALING settings / software
Anybody got any ideas for UPSCALING DVD's (Standard DVD's) and playing on a COMPUTER. These can look amazing on my DVD domestic player connected to my TV but I can't get anything like the same effect when I'm playing through the computer (which in any case has a FAR higher quality graphics card in it than my el-cheapo stand alone DVD player).
The TV monitors I'm using are identical - both very high quality Samsung smart 60 inch TV's. The output from the computer when playing a standard DVD is of much lower quality than when I play the SAME DVD with the upscaling DVD machine -- doesn't matter which monitor I use --same effect.
The DVD played from the computer is an ISO copy -- no degradation due to that - I've authored a DVD with the SAME iso image and it looks great played with the DVD stand alone player -- my laptop doesn't have a physical DVD machine so I "image" discs before playing. The DVD ripping computer has a high quality Blu ray BD DVD writer in it so the hardware is perfectly good enough.
I've looked in VLC -- can't see any settings to change this.
(Blu Ray / full 1080p rips look great when played from the computer so it's not limitations in the graphics. There's obviously something in the hardware of the stand alone DVD player - but this should easily be reproduceable in software with high quality graphics and i7 CPU).
I should be able to play High quality DVD video from my laptop - not something that on a 60 inch screen looks a bit better than the old VHS tapes !!!.
Mirroring the screen from a smart phone works fine -- !!! but the wifi isn't always fast enough for very high quality resolution. So if an ANDROID device can upscale video then a decent PC should be able to. !!!
