Hi there
Didn't you get some software when you got your player -- I've got an LG BD device which came with a Blue ray version of PowerDVD -- works fine in Windows 7 X-64 although I haven't got a monitor or a decent enough video card to actually see HD output on full HD mode. The blu ray disc play fine however (in normal mode).
I only got the BD device because of the large capacity discs - but since you can now get ultra cheap pocket sized usb disks with up to 500GB on them I think the BD device was actually a waste of time and money.
I think Windows Media player might have a problem with the DVD encryption for blu ray DVD's -- I couldn't get them to play - but I didn't really try a lot since power DVD which came with the hardware worked straight OOB.
If I want HD TV I'll watch it in comfort on my large LCD sitting on a on a really nice sofa with a nice glass of scotch in my hand. The last thing I'll want to do is have a computer anywhere near it.
Cheers
