Windows 7: VLC playback blocky/pixelated?

I just installed the 64 bit RC of 7 today, everything is great except this problem persists in vlc.

Whatever file type I play as far as video, when I go full screen it becomes grid lined, as in vertical and horizontal lines criss crossing the video.

Switching to open gl output seems to fix this, however the theme switches from aero to basic, and playback quality seems to diminish some.

Wondering if this is caused from hardware rendering or some problem with the new drivers.

Anyone notice there are similar problems with the grainy lines in WMP when attempting to play .mkv files?

What he said^^^ Also pressing the spacebar to play/pause is much more convenient than the tiny button on my keyboard. Plus VLC no longer plays my DVD's yet WMP now does

However, I find that the picture quality with WMP is more superior out of the box than VLC.

Both players have there good and bad points. That's why I use both

where did you download the MKV codec for WMP 64bit?

EDIT: i got them to work with Win7codecs x64 but i noticed that MKV only works using x64 WMP and not x32 ?

i'm pretty sure soon VLC will fix that problem. VLC 1.0 RC2 is out already.

I'll have to give it a go. It only appeared with RC1. Thanks for the heads up.

despite its popularity and ease of use, VLC is not a very good player. its internal filters are definitely not the best available, and it tends to smooth the picture too much, causing apparent pixelation for most videos.

for a superior all-in-one solution, try KMplayer. for the best possible video playback (xvid), just install the CCCP codec pack, and use Media Player Classic which comes with it.

if you're dealing with videos encoded with H.264, it's best to purchase CoreAVC and use that with MPC (it's cheap).
