    Red line in video playback

I have a problem with video playback in Windows 7 x64. A red line appears straight down the center of the video, with an additional red block up in the upper right corner.
    Examples here:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...a/redline2.png

I have installed both 32bit and 64bit versions of K-Lite codec pack and changed all codec priorities with Win7DSFilterTweaker to ffdshow and still the same problem.
I also tested with MPC Home Cinema and the same problem occurs there.
It does not, however, occur in VLC.
So there appears to be something else than codecs causing this problem.

Anyone that have an idea of what is causing it?

I have a Radeon 4870 with Catalyst 9.9 drivers if that's any help.

Did you by any chance install PowerDVD?

In any case, that seems to me like an "intentional" demo of some sort to allow the user to compare video settings. Meaning, do you like how it looks on the right or left, better? PowerDVD has this ability and does so if set to. Looks very similar to your screenshots, except there would be no red line.

You have some sort of codec problem. I suggest you uninstall all 3rd party video apps one at a time until this disappears. Of course, also uninstall all codec packs you've downloaded and installed too. Once problem is gone, set a restore point, and install what you like to use again. If problem shows up, use the restore point.

I do not have PowerDVD installed.
But because you mentioned about the demo mode it has, I looked in to the settings in Catalyst Control Center settings.
And sure enough, in video settings it does have a setting for enabling "Demo Mode", with split screen the preselected mode.
Turning that off fixed the problem immediately.

I have no idea how they could think of having it turned on by default. Was getting annoyed that I couldn't find the problem.

Thanks for the help, and I'll be sure to check CCC if it ever appears again. :)

I had the exact same problem thanks for pointing that small annoyance out I'd been wondering why all my videos were having strange red lines and now I know. This is one of the reasons why I like Seven Forums, The members always seem so knowledgeable that's why I just joined. I've come here many times and gotten all my questions answered.

You wouldn't believe what I have learned since I joined here early this year. Fantastic site with really good peoples.

Even in instances of people being incorrect on occasions (like I could be at times lol), I learn from their process of thinking no matter how "off" they may be.
