WMP will not play various songs in my music library.

    First the problem:
Random songs will not play in windows media player. Mostly it's whole albums, sometimes there is a single song from an album that will play, it seems random. It's not just one type of music it is various types. I have some music CD's I loaded up as MP3's and some of those will not work, I also have quite a few Amazon MP3's and some of those don't work either. On a side note I can play all my music in VLC, it's just a pain having to reload all the playlists and songs.

What may have led to this:
I recently purchase a LG Blu Ray multi Disc player/writer with M disc support. Obviously it didn't come with any software. I figured, incorrectly, that I could play Blu Ray in WMP. I did a search for WMP Blu Ray codecs and found what seemed to be a good one that had codecs for Blu Ray playback in WMP. I installed it and it didn't work.
I installed a trial version of CyberLink's Power DVD 14, it worked but had crappy sound and when asked to adjust my monitors resolution (I said yes) the picture got real choppy and audio was out of sync. I did ask tech support and they referred me to their forums where there is a fix for that, but I need to join their forums to see the fix... I already belong to enough forums and from what I have seen they have horrible tech support on their forums. I ended up running a trial version of Corel's Win DVD pro, which works great, but it is a trial.
It looks like I will be purchasing the Nero suite for Blu Ray play and record functions (I need software that will utilize my LG Blu Ray player/writer to it's fullest), but in the meantime if anyone knows of a free fix to get either media player or media center to play Blu Ray that would be awesome!

    Back to the problem:
I uninstalled both the codec pack and Power DVD 14 after I realized I had this problem in WMP, but neither helped.
I tried the corrupted library fix in the windows forums by going into the media player folder and deleting all the files so WMP would reload everything, but it didn't work. I think I probably need to reset WMP so it will clear out any residual codecs left over from that codec pack (if that is the culprit).
Anyone know of a good fix for this problem?
    Please Help!
    Bruce

It is a LG Blu Ray burner with M disc support, model # WH16NS40.

How do I re-install WMP? I knew how to do it in XP (once long ago) but have no idea in Win 7.
EDIT: ICit2lol I like your sig, especially the quote at the bottom...lol.

Glad it gave you a laugh as it is so true eh?
Now the software for your optical is http://www.lg.com/us/support-product/lg-WH16NS40

    The WMP see this first
Windows Media Player - Rebuild Corrupted Libraries
if this doesn't work then look at this
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-uninstall-and-re-install-windows-media-player-12-wmp12-in-windows-7/

Now if you want to do an uninstall and install on your own then you will need to save this to downloads (I keep mine on the desktop) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16546 then uninstall and go to that download and install that. This for interest is the WMP for versions of Windows 7 that came without the WMP as part of the OS hence the reference to 7N which was one of the older downloads of the OS - no longer used.

If you have any concerns please post back because the only other way is a clean install and I am sure you want to avoid that.

Thanks, I am still having this problem and I didn't know there was a reply to my last post. I contacted MS support and they wanted to charge me to fix the issue. I said I don't have that kind of money and they gave me some links that for the most part led to broken links or were links I had already checked out. The link you gave me for the LG Blu Ray software is for the firmware of the player and it is up to date. I had already checked that out. I had also already tried the "rebuild corrupted library" fix as I knew of that from a previous "corrupted library" problem. Just before coming to check this post out to add some more info I removed the media player from my services, unfortunately it didn't work. So I am left with doing a manual install, of which I hope the link you gave me to that dl will do all the work for me. Because unless it is in the "uninstall programs" list then I have no idea how to un-install WMP.

Bruce I have only way of uninstalling WMP that I know of and that is to delete the WMP in the registry. To reinstall it I would use this Download Media Feature Pack for Windows 7 N with Service Pack 1 and Windows 7 KN with Service Pack 1 (KB968211) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Now before we go down that track and before you have to end up doing a clean install I think I might ask some of the others if you don't mind if someone can help out with that particular part of the problem.

But in any case it is good idea to back up the registry ( I always do after a clean install as there are things I change via the optimise tutorial that uses changes in the registry) before you do anything see this Registry - Backup and Restore

I will await your reply before I ask the others.

At this time I need all the help I can get. I will wait and see what you find out before I do anything. Right now I can use either VLC or foobar2000. Both are good programs but I WMP does everything I need it to (except play Blu Ray).

Bruce when you say cannot play Blu ray do you mean you have not got a Blu ray drive or that you have but it will not play Blu ray?

I shall throw it into the forum mate and see if someone can come up with something as I may be missing something.

I have a great Blu Ray drive (an LG 16x), but WMP (windows media player) will not play Blu Rays. I thought I found some codecs that would allow it but nothing works. In fact I think it was those codecs that screwed up my WMP. I am currently using a trial version of Corel Power DVD. I plan on purchasing the Nero 12 Platinum suite in the next month or so.

Are you getting any error messages when trying to open these files in WMP or does it simply not respond?
