you go to the SWAP TAB and set FFDshow for MP2/3

Good choice Fluffy, thanks for jumping in.
Freogg, there are several more out there, just Google WMP 12 Codecs, and you will fine quite a few packages out there. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion a4302f OS Win 7 Pro x64, VM Win XP, Win7 Pro Sandbox, Kubuntu 11 CPU AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 @ 3.0 Gbz Memory 12GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB, 2x2GB Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4350 HD Graphics/Audio with 512MB Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 1. I loaded Win7codecs but Mp3's still won't play. Windows media video won't play either. Does it make a difference that I just went to Windows 7 x64 from XP x32? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home Built OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Q6600 Motherboard Gigabyte EP45T UD3P Memory Corsair Dominator DDR3 Graphics Card Asus 8800GTS Sound Card Soundblaster Audigy2 Monitor(s) Displays Sony 21" CRT PSU OCZ ModXStream 900 Watt Case Lian Li A17 Aluminum Case Cooling Fan Hard Drives 2 Hitachi 500 Gigabyte

It could be Windows Media Player itself thats at fault. Not any codec.
You can try this to uninstall and reinstall WMP12. It may help. - Open Start, Type: Turn Fea
- Press enter, and look for Media Features
- Uncheck Windows Media Player and press OK.
- When prompted, restart.
- Repeat this again to reinstall it (but check WMP instead of uncheck).
Note Windows Media Center also is removed during this process, when doing step 5 you will also need to check Windows Media Center (its right above WMP) if you want Windows Media Center. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom | Whitebox OS Windows 7 Ultimate, OS X 10.7, Ubuntu 11.04 CPU Intel E6750 @ 3.80GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L (Revision 1.1) Memory 2x2GB & 2x1GB (6GB) OCZ Reaper 1066MHz @ 1080MHz Graphics Card EVGA nVidia GTX 260 896mb (216 Core) FTW Edition Sound Card Realtek ALC888 Monitor(s) Displays 21" VIZIO TV Screen Resolution 1680x1050 @ 60Hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless S520 Mouse Logitech Wireless S520 - Microsoft Wireless Arc Mouse PSU Corsair 750W Case NZXT Nemesis Elite Cooling Thermaltake SpinQ Hard Drives Western Digital WD6401AALS - 640GB

I tried to play one of the samples that come with Media player 12 and I still get this error:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
