Integrated versus Independent File Converters
Recently I noticed two free popular media players separated the file converting capabilities from their players and now offer a free player and a free converter.
Certainly there can be a number of commercial reasons for doing so. However...
Is there any technical reason why offering a converter and a player is better than offering the converting capabilities integrated into the player.
Remember, "Because that's what people want" is a commercial (more specifically, a marketing) justification and not a technical justification.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
