    Expected Converted File Size ?

I've been converting some WMV files to MP4 files using XMedia Recode.

Some of the converted files are much smaller than the original files, but others are not.

Does anyone know of any software that can tell the resulting converted file size without having to do the conversion, since the conversion can sometimes take a long time?

I use Handbrake to convert to mp4, and although it doesn't estimate filesize, you can set the bitrate and do the math. Say the movie is 1 hour and the target video bitrate is 1.5Mbps -

    1 hour = 3600 sec
    1 byte = 8 bits

    video size = 1.5 * 3600 /8 =675MB

then add about 10% for sound > about 750MB total. Bitrate is a better predictor of quality than filesize IMHO. I usually set Handbrake to 2 pass, but it's still v fast (on my i7).
